Mark Wakelin |
| The Director of the Guy Chester Centre and a Methodist Minister. The Centre brings together various pieces of work, a halls of residence, a retreat and conference centre, a training programme and a retreat and quiet day programme. As director responsible for the overall cohesion of the work as a place of ‘welcome and encounter’ to encourage people in their Christian living. In particular responsible for the training and spirituality work, both working with individuals and groups and developing new ideas. Doctorate in Education (2006). Regular contributor to BBC Daily Service and published in several books and articles. Lecturer at SEITE. Acts as a mentor to ministers, youth workers and others. Leads courses following a similar conceptual pattern: a secular area
of knowledge, competence and skill offered within a clearly theological
and reflective framework. The approach of each course includes a basic
adult education methodology in which prior knowledge and experience
is a key element. Sees role as an educationalist as essentially that
of an ‘accompanist’, helping adults know what they already
know and make new links with existing experience and new ways of understanding
that experience.
