The North Bank Estate and a Trust fund to run it, were given to the Methodist Council, by Guy Chester. His house, Hazlehyrst, and the Halls of Residence, Chester House, provided the main resources for the Trust‘s work. For some time the Methodist Church used part of Chester House to house the Division of Education and Youth. The bringing together of the Connexional Team into Methodist Church House in 1997, left the Trust with some space on the North Bank Estate. |
With the help of the local Methodist Church, who are also located on the Estate, a project (originally called the North Bank Centre) was developed to encourage and support Christian living. The conference programme and training work began operation in September 2000 and the conference facilities became available in January 2002. |
In 2003 the Trustees of the North Bank Estate decided to bring together under one roof all the work that they are responsible for on the lovely Estate in North London. As It was Guy Chester who gave the Estate in the first place, and his name to one of the main buildings on it, we decided with permission from his family to call the new united project the Guy Chester Centre. The work of the North Bank Centre continues, but now that work is part of a larger whole which includes the Halls of Residence, until recently trading as the Chester House Halls of Residence. |
A number of people from a variety of backgrounds have gathered around the Trust’s vision, and the Trust chaired by Daleep Mukarji, the Director of Christian Aid, is continuing the exciting process of turning dreams into reality. |
